Gainers and losers in BBM’s summer book

TORONTO – Looking at the top line results released Monday from the BBM S3 radio ratings book, some big-name stations are on the rise while others have seen their numbers free-fall.

In Toronto, Corus Radio’s Q107 saw its A12+ overall rating go from 7.0 to 7.9 in successive books and when compared to the S3 2005 ratings, the Mighty Q is well ahead of last year’s 5.8, and solidly into third place in the market.

Of course Rogers’ CHFI and CHUM-FM are still neck and neck atop the ratings at 8.6 and 8.7 (A12+), respectively.

The biggest T.O. decliner is Standard Radio’s EZ Rock, which has seen major slippage from a high of 8.2 in the S3 2005 book to 6.9 in S2 ’06 to 5.8 in the summer 2006 book.

Some notable movement in other markets include a Jack FM resurgence in Vancouver, The Rogers station gained almost two ratings points from book to book and is 2.5 points ahead of last year’s S3 book, coming in at 9.5 this summer.

In Edmonton, Corus’ country FM station CISN leapt from 9.2 to 13.3 between the S2 and S3 2006 books and that’s also well ahead of last year’s S3 ’05 number of 10.6.

Moving south to Calgary, Rogers’ Lite 96 saw a 2.1 year-over-year ratings improvement to 9.4, while Jack FM Calgary has slipped markedly from a 13.7 share in S3 ’05 to 11.4 in S2 ’06 to 9.3 in this most recent ratings period.
