Rogers to launch PersonalWeb Internet service in Canada

TORONTO – Rogers Media announced plans to launch the PersonalWeb Internet service in Canada, allowing surfers to customize their online experience when visiting its branded sites.

Rolling out here in early 2007, PersonalWeb will tailor content such as sports, news, music, video, ads, and product recommendations based on the users’ profiles.

As users surf, they’ll “teach” the PersonalWeb software what they like as it builds pages based on their interests. It will link to their favourite sites, their email, and a multi-engine search bar on one page. The software promises to target advertising based on customer preferences.

"Rogers Media is taking our online audience’s experience of the Web to a new level," says Louise Clements, Vice-President of Digital and Interactive at Rogers Consumer Publishing and one of the executives responsible for leading the initiative at Rogers Media. "This represents much more than just a personalized home page; it’s a highly intuitive system that learns what you want from the web and gives it to you. And it does this without collecting and using personally identifiable information."

PersonalWeb won’t just gather online content from Rogers Media properties, but will scan the Web for relevant information.

PersonalWeb is licensed from Claria, a provider of personalization technology.
