THUNDER BAY, Ont. – To help establish a new Centre of Applied Media Production (CAMP) at Confederation College, CanWest Global Communications announced last week it is giving $150,000 to the Thunder Bay school.
Meant to be one of the most advanced media arts education facilities in Canada. The CanWest Global gift will be invested in new technology, infrastructure, classrooms and labs.
"CanWest Global believes strongly in investing in the future of the media industry in Canada, by providing the resources needed to educate the next generation of journalists, writers, editors, producers and media leaders," said Leonard Asper, CanWest’s president and CEO, in a release. "Confederation College’s innovative CAMP program will help fill that need and we are proud to help support the establishment of the Centre."
The gift will be recognized by the naming of the new "CanWest Global Television Production Studio," at Confederation’s main campus.
"The entertainment, creative and communication industry cluster is expected to generate substantial economic growth over the next two decades," said Derek Burney, who has recently been appointed as the chairman of CanWest’s board of directors. "We see Confederation College, CAMP and our key partners such as CanWest Global playing a leadership role in preparing students and communities in Canada to capitalize on this anticipated growth," added Burney.
