Global first to show U.S. primetime program online to Canadians

TORONTO – Global Television is the first Canadian conventional broadcaster to stream an American primetime show online to its audience.

Global’s free, advertiser-supported online hub, www.globaltv.com, will air the premiere of the game show “Deal or No Deal,” hosted by Howie Mandel, in addition to daily editions of Global National with Kevin Newman, new Canadian documentaries from the “Global Currents” library, the debut season of the young adult drama “Falcon Beach,” and the debut season of the comedy “The Jane Show.”

All these broadband videos will be available after their TV broadcast, with select episodes archived on a customized menu.

“We’re delighted to offer this online first to Global audiences nationwide,” said Kathleen Dore, President of Television & Radio for CanWest MediaWorks Inc. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for our team to deliver premium U.S. and Canadian content on this emerging platform, and work with exciting new advertisers and content partners to extend the Global Television brand.”

Global says the latest offerings are part of its commitment to increase its broadband presence. Last year it aired the first national newscast available via podcast, and offered news content on BlackBerry devices via bbtv.
