MARKETING: A mobile fashion statement with Bell, MSN and The Gap

MONTREAL – It’s a three-pronged marketing attack that will build usage of MSN Messenger, tally up data usage on Bell Mobility and sell Gap clothes.

OZ, the Montreal-based facilitator announced the “Stay Connected, Stay in Style” promotion this week. For a limited time, consumers have a chance to win one of five $1,000 shopping cards from Gap or a new Samsung A900 mobile phone.

“Just as fashion is an expression of individuality and style, so is the mobile phone,” said Dimitrios Papadogonas, senior brand manager, Gap Canada. “With more consumers personalizing and customizing their mobile phones, it is the must have accessory." The promotion "allows us to leverage the cultural convergence of technology and fashion, and provides us with a new dimension to reach our customers.”

To enter, Canadians need to visit the www.connectedinstyle.com website to view a quick demo of how to instant message (IM) on their phone; fill out an entry form for a chance to win one of the shopping cards or the mobile phone; and consumers can also download the MSN Messenger application right to their Bell phone. The MSN Messenger mobile application is available for free for one month.

“With more than 5.4 million Canadians using MSN Messenger on their PC’s every day; this service reaches 94% of all Canadians messaging online,” said Jennifer Howe, marketing manager, communications services and trade for Microsoft.

According to industry analyst group Radicati, there are over 14 billion instant messages being sent and received everyday on the PC; and wireless IM is poised for dramatic growth especially among the youth and business segments. Radicati expects mobile IM to reach 46.5 billion messages a day in 2009.

“As more people are on the move, and the mobile phone solidifies itself as the connection to our social network, mobile IM enables consumers to never miss a beat with their friends and family,” said Skuli Mogensen, CEO and founder of OZ, in the release.
