TORONTO – TSN has nabbed sportscaster Darren Dreger away from Sportsnet. Dreger, who has 19 years in the biz, begins July 31 as TSN’s Hockey Insider, alongside Bob McKenzie.
Dreger will be focusing on hockey year-round, covering the NHL and international matches. He’ll also appear on panel discussions, SportsCentre, and That’s Hockey. “Hockey generates news and breaking stories 12 months a year. Fans want immediate access to information and to be as close to the game as possible. Our viewers are best served having two experienced Hockey Insiders, as TSN continues to be the source for hockey news and information,” said TSN President Phil King in a statement. “Darren is an established hockey expert with an abundance of contacts throughout the hockey world.”
Dreger started in broadcasting in 1987 at CJGX Radio in Yorkton, Sask. He’s also worked for CTV before, from 1993 to 1997 in Winnipeg as a sports anchor and hockey reporter. “This is the opportunity I’ve worked my entire career for,” said Dreger in the release. “In hockey, TSN is the leader with coverage of the game and beyond that is second to none. The bottom line for me is, I’m a hockey guy, and I want to work with—and be identified with—the best in the business.”
