TORONTO – The Canadian Television Fund is now better able to be strategic in helping homegrown productions since it has less to do with administering the grants, the CTF said after holding its first-ever public stakeholders’ meeting at the Banff World Television Festival.
“Now that the administration of the CTF’s funding programs are outsourced to Telefilm Canada, the CTF has the capacity to take on important industry issues like policy development and guideline review, as well as engage our stakeholders in comprehensive consultation,” said Valerie Creighton, CTF President. “Today we begin an ongoing dialogue that will shape the future of CTF-supported television production in Canada.”
The federal government announced a year ago plans to harmonize the governance functions of the CTF and Telefilm Canada. The CTF says its stakeholder meeting is a move toward providing better transparency and detail into the fund’s operations.
In the past fiscal year, CTF provided $249 million in production funding to support 475 productions, totalling 2,200 hours in programming, with total production budgets of $817 million.
CTF board members are appointed by the federal government and industry associations.
