More channels means bigger returns for ATN

TORONTO – The country’s largest South Asian Broadcaster, ATN, today announced net earnings of $1.16 million for the first half of the year, ended June 30th.

That’s a 214.3% year over year increase.

Revenue for the first half of 2006 came in at $4.8 million well above the $2.9 million it brought in during the first six months of 2005. The company continues to launch additional channels and has become Canada’s largest distributor of cricket programming. ATN operates thirteen channels comprised of general interest, movies, news, music, regional languages and a Commonwealth channel with live cricket from around the world.

Eight of its channels are available nationally and all 13 are available in southern Ontario.

Having launched so many more channels, operating expenses for the first half were $3.25 million, or 155.9% higher than 2005. This was due "principally to increase in programming, production and pay-roll costs," says the company’s press release.

EBITDA was $1.56 million, a 192.2% increase.
