MARINA DEL REY, Calif. – An American site has launched that allows consumers to legally download movies and burn to a DVD they can watch on their television.
It’s not clear from the Web site, www.cinemanow.com, whether the service is available to Canadians. At press time, the link that said “international” was inactive.
CinemaNow, an Internet provider of on-demand videos, has launched a beta service allowing the burning of DVDs to watch later—a U.S. first, it says.
This serious bypassing of normal movie delivery channels provides more than 100 titles that include the movie plus all the standard features found on DVDs, such as special features, commentary, and other language tracks. Prices for DVDs start at $8.99 and include printable label and cover art.
"Our customers will experience a true innovation in home entertainment: the ability to obtain a DVD in the comfort of their living room," said Curt Marvis, CEO of CinemaNow. "Since CinemaNow was founded in 1999, our mission has been to provide our customers with convenient access to video content. This is a historic day for CinemaNow and we are at the forefront of digital video distribution."
