MONTREAL – Quebecor Media’s popular portal company, Canoe, named former Sympatico executive Patrick Lauzon its executive vice-president.
Lauzon "will steer Canoe’s national growth and development strategy and oversee all business units, including the Canoe.qc.ca and Canoe.ca portals, the commercial sites Jobboom, Micasa.ca, Autonet.ca, ClassifiedExtra/ ClasséesExtra, Flirt.ca/Réseau Contact, and several new products currently under development," says the press release.
Lauzon (pictured below) has more than 13 years of experience with media and Internet companies. He was responsible for media sales and business development at Sympatico/MSN and occupied a number of key positions at Bell Canada and its subsidiaries. He is also chairman of IAB Canada (Interactive Advertising Bureau) and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2000.
“Canoe is pleased to welcome Patrick to the team,” said Bruno Leclaire, president and CEO of Canoe and vice-president, interactive media division, of Quebecor Media. “His relevant experience in the Internet industry, his insight and strategic talent are valuable assets which will certainly contribute to Canoe’s success in this period of strong growth for the company."
Canoe’s growth, particularly since the beginning of 2006, has generated a substantial increase in workload for its people, added the release. More than 50 new employees have joined the company in the past few months and there are currently a number of openings to be filled.
The growth is prompting Canoe to review its corporate structure.
So, in addition to the EVP position, a new vice-president, operations position has been created and Marcel Sanscartier has the job. He has over five years of experience with Canoe and more than 20 years in the media industry. Sanscartier will head Canoe’s technology, research & development and creative department groups.
