Global renews second season of Debbie Travis’ ?From the Ground Up

TORONTO – Capitalizing on the popularity of decorating diva Debbie Travis, Global has renewed her latest show, From the Ground Up, for a second year.

The Canadian original primetime series focuses on rebuilding the lives of 12 adults aged 20 to 30 as they tackle the skilled trades.

“We’re excited to be teaming up again with Debbie Travis and (producer) RTR Media Inc.,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President of Programming and Production for CanWest MediaWorks. “From The Ground Up has made an important impact not only in the lives of the protégés, but on Canadians nationwide. Debbie’s role as a mentor is driven by her determination to give these young people a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and personally give back to the industry where she has succeeded.”

Production on season two is slated to start this September, with shows returning to Global’s 2007 mid-season schedule. The finale of this season will air this Sunday at 7 p.m. ET. She’ll reveal the protégé who will receive $250,000 in cash as voted by Canadians online and by text messaging. More than 100,000 votes have been cast so far. Voting closes on Friday.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be working on season two of From The Ground Up with Global,” said Debbie Travis in a news release. “This Sunday’s finale will leave Canada wanting more, and I can’t wait to put the next crop of young Canadians to the test.”
