Global named official TV partner of Calgary Stampede

CALGARY – Global Television has been named the official TV partner (or should that be “pardner”?) of the Calgary Stampede.

Global Calgary has been supporting the event for 22 years, but this is the first year it’s had an official television partner. For the past decade, the local station has been an official entertainment sponsor of the stampede.

Global will be airing national broadcasts of the 2006 Calgary Stampede Parade and rodeo finals events.

"We’re very excited to be partnering once again with the Calgary Stampede, now not only as official entertainment sponsor, but also as official television partner," said Chris McGinley, Vice President, Western Stations for CanWest MediaWorks. "This new partnership allows us to bring one of the world’s top ranked rodeo competitions to audiences nationwide, showcasing the internationally renowned Calgary Stampede, and placing the vibrant culture of one of Canada’s fastest growing cities in the spotlight."

Viewers in Alberta and British Columbia can see the rodeo action live. Global’s broadcast of the finals will feature the world’s best competitors from Canada, the U.S., Australia, and Brazil. On Sunday’s showdown competition, $1 million in prize money will be offered—the richest afternoon in rodeo.

Global’s coverage of the 10-day event begins July 5 at 7 p.m. Mountain Time and will wrap up on July 22 in Ontario with a tape-delayed broadcast.
