HAMILTON and DENVER – Canada’s Mountain Cablevision will receive a "Top Tier System" award at this week’s SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Denver Colo., from which Cartt.ca will be filing stories all week long.
Mountain, an independent cableco serving about 38,000 customers in and around Hamilton, Ont., will be recognized along with giant U.S. MSOs Comcast, Cox and Time Warner Cable this Wednesday afternoon as the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and its magazine, Communications Technology, hands out its annual awards.
While Comcast Seattle is the System Of The Year, Mountain will be recognized as a Top Tier System along with Cox Gulf Coast and Time Warner Columbia, S.C.
"We’re thrilled," Mountain Cablevision president John Piercy told Cartt.ca on Monday. "We’re very excited about (the award) and to be recognized with (the large American firms)."
Mountain is a fully digital cable system which has offered residential voice service for over a year (with "large" order volumes, said Piercy) and will soon have a small and medium business service offering for commercial customers in its territories later this year. (Ed Note: The system is one of the more active and innovative in Canada, regardless of size.)
"I have to credit Owen (Boris, the company founder and owner) for being so far-sighted and Bruce (Marshall, head of engineering) and his team for being so innovative," added Piercy.
Look for a follow-up piece on this and many other stories from the Cable-Tec Expo as Cartt.ca will be there all week.
