TORONTO – Krista Harris, executive director, digital programming and business development for CBC’s English Networks, died suddenly on the weekend in her home town of Barrington, N.S. She was 42.
This comes as a great shock to all of us," said a CBC memo from radio head Jane Chalmers and CBC TV chief Richard Stursberg. "Krista was a cherished colleague and a fervent supporter of CBC and of public broadcasting, one who had worked her way up through the ranks of the corporation over the last twelve years, first in the Maritimes and then at the network."
Since joining CBC in 1994, Harris served in a number of senior roles, including regional director of operations for CBC Radio in the Maritimes, regional director of radio for the Maritimes, deputy head of radio new media and interim managing director of CBC.ca.
In 2002, she became associate director of programming for CBC Radio, and later that year was appointed executive director of production and resources. In March of this year, Harris (left) was appointed to executive director, digital programming and business development for CBC’s English Networks.
"This is a tremendous loss to all of us-her family, friends and loved ones, her colleagues and co-workers, and to the CBC. We will remember Krista for her kindness and compassion, her ability to bring people together to seek out solutions and serve a common cause. She had a deep commitment to the cause of public broadcasting, and to finding new ways to bring our work to Canadians and to provide them with services of the highest quality. Even though she had been with us for more than a decade, we feel that her finest work with us was just about to begin," said the communiqué.
She is survived by her parents, Neil and Janice, and her brothers Mark and Todd.
