TORONTO – Breaking a world record on Friday, Torontonians raised $3,481,000 for the Hospital for Sick Children last week through Standard Radio stations, the company said today.
Newstalk 1010 CFRB, 97.3 EZ Rock and MIX 99.9 all broadcast live April 5th, 6th and 7th from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Hospital’s atrium in the 20th Annual Sick Kids Radiothon.
“We are so thankful to all of our listeners for their astounding generosity” said Standard Radio president and CEO, Gary Slaight, in a release. “With our world record of $3.2 million raised last year, we had high hopes for the 20th annual event, and once again, our Toronto listeners opened their hearts to the children at Sick Kids and helped make a tremendous difference”.
The Sick Kids Radiothon won an international award in March at the Children’s Miracle Network Conference in Orlando. 97.3 EZ Rock, Newstalk 1010 CFRB, and MIX 99.9 won the award for Best Memorial Montage for the 2005 Radiothon.
Standard Radio plays an active role and is highly committed to the communities that it serves (its Hamilton cluster raised over $240,000 for McMaster Children’s Hospital, for example). One of the core values is "to share our success and good fortune with the communities in which we live, work and play," says the company.
Standard Broadcasting is the largest privately owned multi-media company in Canada and the second largest radio group in terms of tuning in Canada, says the release.
