TORONTO Women in Film and Television – Toronto, in partnership with the National Film Board, today announced the first annual WIFT International Short Film Showcase.
The event will celebrate the outstanding filmmaking talents of women worldwide, will take place on International Women’s Day – March 8, 2006, and feature nine Canadian and international short films.
The WIFT International Short Film Showcase is an initiative of Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI) and will feature screenings across the WIFTI network. Participating chapters worldwide will include Alberta, Atlanta, Australia, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, Houston, Jamaica, Los Angeles, Montreal, New England, New Mexico, New York, New Zealand, Toronto, and Vancouver.
“We are thrilled to take part in this international event showcasing some of the world’s most exciting female filmmakers,” said Sue Sheridan, acting managing director, WIFT-T. “We invite members and non-members alike to join us on International Women’s Day to pay tribute to the achievements of women in film and the strength of the WIFT community.”
The first annual WIFT International Short Film Showcase will take place in Toronto at the NFB Mediatheque, 150 John St. on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 from 7 to 10 p.m. (two-hour screening followed by cocktail reception). The cost for WIFT-T and NFB members is $10, non-members $15.

WIFT-T also announced the appointments of Christine Amendola as communications manager and Lynnette Gryseels as programming manager this week.
Both positions are effective immediately.
Amendola comes to WIFT-T from Global Television where she was the media relations manager for five years. Prior to joining Global, she worked in the publishing industry as a writer and editor for Maclean Hunter, the Globe and Mail, and Southam Inc.
Gryseels joined WIFT-T in September 2005. Prior to being named programming manager, she was WIFT-T’s communications manager. She has also worked at Hot Docs, the Toronto International Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, and several other festivals in a variety of communications and programming roles.
