NFB expands globally

MONTREAL – The National Film Board announced this week it’s going to grow its global presence.

Beginning with the international audiovisual community at the MIPDOC and MIPTV featuring MILIA markets in Cannes, NFB says it will strengthen "its ties with international partners and developing new digital content."

The NFB is also announcing initiatives recognizing excellence in documentary: the National Film Board of Canada Award and Trailblazers.

In addition, the NFB has inked a landmark worldwide music rights pact with Toronto-based music publisher OLE.

"The NFB’s international activities strengthen our bottom line and generate new revenues as well as benefit Canadian independent artists and producers," said Jacques Bensimon, government film commissioner and NFB chair, in a press release. "Our expanding international co-productions serve as a bridge between Canadian partners and global producers and buyers.

On the music rights management side, Canadian composers will benefit as we maximize the international exposure and value of our music library."
