TORONTO – Beginning Monday, Citytv’s CityNews viewers can have their news delivered daily to their desktops with the launch of video podcasts on www.pulse24.com.
"In a CHUM Television news first, ‘CityNews’ Toronto viewers are now able to watch when and where they want via video podcasting – a web feed of video files published on the internet for downloading," says the press release.
(However, while the press release said it’s the first newsroom in Canada to offer podcasts, Global National has been available on iTunes for a few months and CTV has offered video from its web site for some time now.)
Viewers who want to subscribe (it’s free, like Global National’s, and unlike CTV Newsnet’s feed, which starts at $4.95 a month for a news stream, not a podcast) can log on to www.pulse24.com and using a podcast-enabled feed reader, such as iTunes, they can sign up to automatically receive the podcast daily.
Once downloaded, the files can be transferred to an iPod, Sony PSP or other portable media device.
"This is the next important initiative in our strategic plan to maintain our position as Toronto’s primary source for local news on multiple platforms," said Stephen Hurlbut, vice-president news programming, Citytv and vice-president and general manager, CP24.
