TORONTO – Sales of XM Canada radios and subscription services are so brisk that the company says it expects more than 100,000 receivers will have been shipped to stores across Canada by Christmas, exceeding expectations.
The receivers are available at more than 1,000 outlets across Canada, including Best Buy, Future Shop, The Source, Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, and London Drugs. Some have placed additional orders for units they’ve sold.
XM Canada says it is also negotiating with four other car manufacturers to install XM satellite radios. It already has an exclusive contract with General Motors of Canada to offer factory-installed radios.
The rollout of its terrestrial repeater network is almost complete, with repeaters already installed in major urban centres, XM Canada said.
“We are thrilled with the early results of our launch and rollout of XM Canada. We were the first satellite radio service to launch and sell subscriptions and radios in Canada and we were the first broadcaster to offer Canadian programming for all of North America," said Stephen Tapp, XM Canada’s President and Chief Operating Officer.
