TORONTO – Listeners in Moncton and Saint John, N.B., and Halifax, N.S., will hear their brand new news/talk stations beginning October 11th.
Rogers Media announced today that News 95.7 in Halifax, News 91.9 in Moncton and News 88.9 in Saint John “will follow North America’s number one form of radio programming, the highly successful news/talk radio format. These three stations will provide the most comprehensive, local, live and late-breaking news in their local communities.”
They’ll also be some of the very few news/talk stations on FM.
"On Tuesday, October 11th the communities of Halifax, Saint John and Moncton will wake up to a new source for all their local news, sports, and weather information needs," said Jim Hamm, general manager, Atlantic Radio, in a release. "In addition to our daily news wheel, which has been so successful in other markets, twice daily we will broadcast a regional, call-in talk show which will address local, national and international issues and concerns. And our evenings will be filled with sports, sports and more sports, kicked off by Prime Time Sports with Bob McCowan.”
So, will McCowan talk less about the Toronto Maple Leafs and more about St. Francis Xavier X-Men basketball? Um, the release didn’t say.
Audiences of the new stations will soon become familiar with the idea of a clock-based news wheel. With weather and traffic on the ones, sports at 15 and 45 past the hour and business at 26 and 56 past the hour, listeners will know exactly when and where they can find the information they need.
