Gold Ribbon finalists unveiled

OTTAWA – The Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Gold Ribbon Awards honour achievement in broadcasting in various categories including community service, breaking news, humour, public affairs, and promotion of Canadian talent.

The awards will be presented during The Future Summit, the CAB’s 2005 Convention in Winnipeg, November 6 -8, 2005. The complete list of finalists, below, was released Thursday.

A total of 457 entries were received. These awards are among the most prestigious in the Canadian broadcasting industry, and recognize outstanding productions in radio, television, specialty and pay services, and community service. After reviewing the entries, the judges selected 124 finalists in 25 award categories.

“We are thrilled with the high quality of the entries again this year,” said Glenn O’Farrell, president and CEO of the CAB, in a release. “Canada’s private broadcasters continue to show tremendous creativity with outstanding programming that not only entertains, but also informs viewers and listeners and connects them to their community.”

“While this year’s entries came from an incredibly diverse range of markets, they share a common commitment to excellence that is the hallmark of Canada’s private broadcasters,” said Robyn Rudolph, Chair of the Gold Ribbon Awards Judging Panel for the Television and Specialty/Pay/PPV services categories.
