TORONTO – The last day to register for the SCTE Ontario Chapter’s two-day practical voice over Internet protocol workshop is Friday.
This workshop is new, and is designed to introduce participants to practical aspects of IP telephony as delivered over a broadband HFC network. It’s set for October 5 & 6, 2005 at LeParc Conference Centre in Thornhill, Ont.
The goals of the VOIP workshop are to reinforce participants’ existing knowledge and develop new skills regarding the identification of real-world VOIP technical problems. The intended audience for this workshop will be technical operations managers, plant managers, supervisors, project managers and engineers who have responsibility for VOIP deployment and operation.
The first day will provide a brief overview of the PSTN (including switching systems, hierarchies, and SS7 Signaling), and will examine PacketCable VOIP systems (including provisioning, call set-up, call tear down and providing QoS). On day two a live softswitch will be brought in to identify and demonstrate common VOIP end-user problems and possible causes. We will also present troubleshooting "best practices" utilizing currently available networking tools and test equipment.
This two day workshop is designed to:
1) Provide a brief overview of the PSTN (including switching systems, hierarchies, and SS7 Signaling)
2) Examine PacketCable VoIP systems (including provisioning, call set-up, call tear down and providing QoS)
3) Identify common VoIP end-user problems and possible causes, via live demos
4) Present troubleshooting "best practices" utilizing currently available networking tools and test equipment
