Film Centre confirms Klymkiw appointment


TORONTO – Well, that didn’t take long.

As reported yesterday evening by cbc.ca (repeated here on cartt.ca), former head of CBC programming is, in fact, headed to the Canadian Film Centre.

Robert Munroe, chair of the board of the CFC confirmed that this morning. Klymkiw starts his new job in late September.

"We are incredibly excited to have Slawko take the helm of the Canadian Film Centre," said Munroe, in the press release. "The depth of experience and industry knowledge that he brings to the position will be integral to leading the next exciting chapter in the Film Centre’s development.”

"Slawko’s reputation as a passionate leader in the Canadian media industry precedes him," says director Norman Jewison, the CFC’s founder. "His commitment to the creative process and proven strategic ability will be an asset to the Film Centre".

In his new role Klymkiw will be responsible for providing the overall vision and management of the Film Centre, while continuing to strengthen and shape the profile of the Canadian Film Centre in Canada and around the world.

"His personal and professional commitment to developing talent is a perfect fit and we look forward to working with him to build new and exciting opportunities for Canada’s finest emerging talent in film, television and new media."

Klymkiw’s many years of experience at the CBC have garnered him an incredible list of accomplishments. As architect of the CBC Television schedule he was responsible for the cultivation of new programming and it’s positioning on the schedule. Some of CBC Television’s recent programming successes under Klymkiw’s stewardship include: Canada: A People’s History, The Greatest Canadian, Random Passage, Trudeau, H20, CBC Sunday and Olympics in Atlanta, Nagano and Salt Lake City.

Founded in 1988, the Canadian Film Centre, located in Toronto, “is Canada’s foremost film, television and new media institution dedicated to advancing Canadian creative values, talent and content worldwide through training, production, promotion and investment,” says the release.
