It’s Thursday night hockey as A-Channel Ottawa re-signs Sens

OTTAWA – Newly re-branded A-Channel Ottawa will air 20 Ottawa Senators games this National Hockey League season anniounced the hockey club and the station today.

2005-06 season schedule will see the CHUM channel air all 19 of the club’s Thursday evening games.

The 20-game package marks the fifth consecutive season the Senators are back with the station, which changed identification from The New RO to A-Channel this month.

Of the schedule, 13 games are home games from the Corel Centre. In addition, Rogers Sportsnet will simulcast a majority of A-Channel games in their East region, enabling those outside A-Channel’s viewing area to catch their broadcasts.

“We are thrilled to be able to once again bring the excitement of NHL hockey home to our viewers,” said Don Mumford, A-Channel’s station manager, in the press release. “A-Channel is committed to providing entertainment for the whole family, and that’s exactly what the Ottawa Senators offer.”

A-Channel’s schedule opens in Ottawa against the Montreal Canadiens on October 27 – one of three Thursday night Senators/Canadiens match-ups to be broadcast. One week later, the Senators will receive a visit from the defending Stanley Cup champions Tampa Bay Lightning on November 3. Other key games to be broadcast on the A-Channel include Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 2 and five key divisional match-ups against Joe Thornton and the Boston Bruins between November and April, including Tuesday, April 11 – the only non-Thursday broadcast in the schedule.

"We are incredibly pleased to be back for another season with our partners at CHUM Television, on the newly launched A-Channel,” said Jim Steel, the Senators vice-president of broadcast. “A cooperative effort between A-Channel and the Senators regional broadcast partner Rogers Sportsnet, which will be simulcasting most of the games, has resulted in a terrific local broadcast schedule."
