CanWest MediaWorks hires Torstar exec as CFO

TORONTO – Doug Lamb has been hired by CanWest MediaWorks as executive vice-president and chief financial officer.

In this role, he will be responsible for the company’s financial strategy, reporting and planning, as well as for treasury, tax, audit and internal accounting controls.

“Doug has a wealth of financial experience at both the strategic and operational level," said Peter Viner, president and CEO of CanWest MediaWorks, in a press release. "He has also worked extensively in the media industry which will be a tremendous asset as we focus on achieving our financial and operating goals, while continuing to strategically grow the business."

Lamb joins CanWest MediaWorks from Metroland Printing, Publishing and Distributing, Ltd. (the weekly newspaper subsidiary of Torstar Corporation), where he held the position of vice-president, corporate development. There, he led the company’s strategy development, merger and acquisition activity and key business development initiatives.

Prior to Torstar, Lamb held a variety of financial roles at Hollinger International Ltd. and Southam Inc. As a partner at Hollinger Capital, he was responsible for Hollinger’s venture capital and technology investment activities.

He also served as director of planning for Southam Inc. where he was responsible for planning and corporate development for the Southam group of newspapers, which, of course, are all now owned by CanWest and were purchased from Hollinger.

"I am very excited to be joining Canwest Mediaworks," said Lamb. "In particular, I look forward to working with such a dynamic leadership team and for the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of the company."
