TORONTO – On Monday, 640 Toronto will begin airing a two-week investigative series into “the deal with the devil”, Ontario’s sentencing deal with convicted killer Karla Homolka.
Promising an “exclusive radio series (which) shatters the secrecy and politics behind the Karla Homolka story,” the 640 Toronto series certainly seems to be an ambitious journalism project, especially for radio.
“The horrors that fell from the hands of Karla Homolka tore at our humanity. Her pending release ignites rage in the belief that justice prevails. Has the system failed us ?” asks the radio station’s release.
Beginning this Monday June 13th, 640 TORONTO’s “The Beat” with Craig Bromell presents “Anatomy Of A Deal: The Freedom of Karla Homolka”, an investigative series that will challenge the myths and reveal the politics behind the deal that will set free one of Canada’s most notorious criminals.
Joining Bromell, Toronto’s former Police union boss for this special investigative series is 640 Toronto crime reporter Tina Trigiani, Stephen Williams, author of “Invisible Darkness” and “Karla: A Deal with The Devil”, along with several sources who will speak about the events surrounding the arrest, sentencing, incarceration and release of Karla Homolka.
“We need to get to the bottom of the deal to ensure it never happens again,” says Bromell. “Our investigation will crack through some of the myths that have previously created confusion.”
“Anatomy Of A Deal: The Freedom of Karla Homolka” will be heard exclusively on The Beat, weekdays at 10 am from Monday June 13th to Friday June 24th.
