Shaw catching up with more HD


CALGARY – Shaw Cablesystems today said it has added Rogers Sportsnet HD and Fox HD to its channel lineup.

The two channels are included at no charge to customers subscribing to Shaw Digital.

While Fox HD carries much popular TV programming, including NFL Football, NASCAR racing, American Idol, 24, House, Stacked, The O.C., and Malcolm in the Middle, Sportsnet is the HD leader in Canada with hundreds of hours of HD content, including every home game of the Toronto Blue Jays in HD. Sportsnet has broadcast about 150 live events since the Toronto Blue Jays opened their HD schedule September 1, 2003. SportsnetNews is Canada’s only widescreen sportscast – airing three times daily.

"The inclusion of Fox HD and Sportsnet HD in our lineup adds to the superior entertainment experience that HD customers enjoy," said Peter Bissonnette, president of Shaw Communications Inc., in the press release. "The HD content on these channels is among the best available and we know they will be an instant favourite with our customers."

Current Shaw Digital customers in Calgary, Edmonton, the Okanagan (Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon), Vancouver and Saskatoon with an HD Digital Terminal and an HD-ready TV will receive Fox HD and Sportsnet HD at no extra cost. "In fact, all Shaw HD channels are included at no charge for customers with an HD Digital Terminal." added Bissonnette.

Shaw’s HD lineup includes seven channels (by comparison, Rogers and Bell ExpressVu offer over 25 each):

– Channel 302 Movie Central HD
– Channel 303 KOMO ABC Seattle
– Channel 304 KIRO CBS Seattle
– Channel 305 KING NBC Seattle
– Channel 306 KSPS PBS Seattle
– Channel 307 KCPQ FOX Seattle

Shaw HD digital terminals currently retail for $398.88 and a Shaw HD digital terminals with built-in Personal Video Recorders are also available for $748.88 before programming credits.
