TORONTO – Virgin Mobile today launched its Top Ten Ringtones chart featuring the ten most popular downloaded ringtones downloaded.
The Virgin Mobile Top Ten Ringtones list is the first of its kind available in Canada and debuts this week in 18 major urban dailies and weeklies across Canada.

1. Don’t Phunk With My Heart – Black Eyed Peas
2. Candy Shop – 50 Cent
3. Hollaback Girl – Gwen Stefani
4. Hate It Or Love It – The Game
5. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams – Green Day
6. We Belong Together – Mariah Carey
7. Hey Sexy Pickup The Phone – SFX
8. B.Y.O.B – System of a Down
9. Behind These Hazel Eyes – Kelly Clarkson
10. Nothin but a G Thang – Dr. Dre
"Canadians now have the source for what’s hot in ringtones. By checking out Virgin Mobile’s list every week they can tell their friends ‘that ringtone was SO last week’," said Nathan Rosenberg, Virgin Mobile’s Chief Marketing Officer, in the press release.
"Like with the top CDs, people also want to know what ringtones are topping the charts, especially given the incredible growth the mobile industry has seen in ringtone popularity over the last few years," he added.
Anyone wondering how important the ringtone market is to the music and wireless industry should know that mobile customers around the world spent over $3 billion last year on ringtones. In Canada, customers spent over $2 million and are expected to double their ringtone spending this year.
Since Virgin Mobile’s launch in March 2005, more than one third of its customers have downloaded ringtones, and to date, "50 Cent" ringtones make up 13% of all ringtones downloaded. Prices start at $2.50.
"The standard preloaded ring is dead. Ringtones are your badge that display your character or mood," said Rosenberg. "We plan to lead the ringtone market in Canada by offering our customers the latest and hottest ringtones and musictones. With Virgin’s heritage in music we’re committed to rocking the ringers off our customers’ phones.”
