MONTREAL – Saying it needs a new team of leaders to help it meet the challenges posed by the acquisition and integration of the Radiomédia network Corus Radio Quebec has made three key management additions.
While the Astral transaction is expected to be finalized in late May (it received CRTC approval earlier this year) Corus Québec president Pierre Arcand today announced the following appointments:
Jacques Papin is the new vice president of Montreal francophone stations. He has a wealth of experience in radio and has been a member of the Corus Québec team for nearly five years. He has been CKOI general manager for two years and took part in the launch of 98.5 FM, also as general manager.
Papin has managed seven regional stations at Corus Québec. He worked for Radiomutuel from 1982 to 2000, notably as Radiomédia vice president and CKAC general manager from 1998 to 2000.
Yves Guérard, who has been in radio for almost 25 years, is the new general manager of Montreal AM stations CKAC and Info690. He joined Corus Québec in 2004 as a special consultant. Over the course of his career, he has held a number of strategic positions in the Quebec radio industry, including radio vice president of Cogeco radio et télévision inc. from 1994 to 1996.
Guerard also worked for Radiomutuel from 1976 to 1993, as CKMF general manager, then CKMF and CJMS president, and vice president of the FM and Mutuel Musique group. He first started out as a media correspondent for the Canadian media in France, joining CKAC a few years later.
Brian Kenemy is the new vice-president of Corus’ Montreal anglophone stations Q92 and 940News. Kenemy also has a wide range of experience in radio, where he took his first steps 38 years ago. After working as a journalist for the first few years of his career, he moved on to hold a number of sales team positions, notably as director of sales at CKGM, then Q92.
When Corus Québec acquired Métromédia, Kenemy had already been Q92’s general manager since 1995, a position he held until today. Mr. Kenemy also headed up the launch of Info690 and 940News all-news radio during 2000.
These appointments become effective on Monday, May 30, 2005.
The Radiomedia acquisition will see Corus acquire seven AM stations, including the Radiomédia network and one FM station: CKAC Montréal, CHRC Québec City, CKRS Saguenay, CHLN Trois Rivieres, CHLT Sherbrooke, CJRC Gatineau and CFOM-FM Levis. In return, Corus will transfer five FM stations to Astral Media: CJOI-FM Rimouski, CIKI-FM Rimouski, CFVM-FM Amqui, CFZZ-FM Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu and CJDM-FM Drummondville.
Corus is already a major player in the Québec radio market. It operates CKOI Montréal, CHMP Montréal, Info690, 940News, CFQR Montréal, CIME Saint-Jérôme, CFEL Montmagny, CJDM Drummondville, CIKI Rimouski, CJOI Rimouski, CFZZ Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and CFVM Amqui.
