TORONTO and OTTAWA – CHUM Television announced this morning the promotion of Don Mumford to station manager of The New RO.
Soon to be re-branded as A-Channel, The New RO serves Ottawa and its surrounding regions.
Mumford will be responsible for leading the management team and the day-to-day operations, growth and strategic planning of the station, said Nigel Fuller, regional vice-president, CHUM Television.
“Don has over 22 years of broadcasting experience and a proven record of success at CHUM’s local stations in Southwestern Ontario,” added Fuller. “His demonstrated management skills and solid knowledge of the industry make him admirably suited to leading the station under the A-Channel brand, and guiding its continuing growth as the local station of Pembroke, the Valley and the National Capital Region.”
Prior to this promotion, Don was program and promotion manager for The New PL (London), The New NX (Wingham) and The New WI (Windsor) (all stations to also be re-branded as A-Channels) where among his many responsibilities he oversaw the programming, marketing, promotion and independent and commercial production for all three stations, with overall responsibility for news and public affairs.
While in this role, Don co-ordinated the redesign of the stations’ franchise news operation, which reversed flagging audience numbers and resulted in an increased weekly reach. He also designed and launched “New Day,” Southwestern Ontario’s premiere morning show.
Don began his television career at CFAC-TV in Lethbridge, Alberta as a commercial writer/producer and soon joined CFPL-TV (later to become The New PL) in the same position before leaving to work in feature film production and as a freelance writer.
In 1987 he returned to CFPL-TV as an account executive and in 1990 was named promotion manager of CFPL-TV and CKNX-TV (The New NX), eventually adding CHWI-TV (The New WI) to his title in 1993. In 1995, he also assumed programming responsibilities for the stations.
This promotion is effective June 6th.
