Regina’s community radio station, 91.3 FM CJTR, has officially rebranded as AccessNow Community Radio, according to a press release Thursday.
The news follows the CRTC’s approval of the sale of the station to AccessNow in December. AccessNow says, since the approval, it has retained two full-time staff and hired a sales executive. The station generates money through advertising and sponsorship revenues, it says in the release.
Tracey Mucha, Access’s senior manager of community engagement, said the company is “excited to offer businesses new and innovative advertising opportunities, responding to the growing demand for local content and more dynamic advertising solutions as we evolve our media presence.”
The rebranding of the station, which has 75 volunteer hosts who produce 64 shows and 5000 hours of content annually, “marks a significant milestone in community radio, reflecting a renewed commitment to amplifying local voices across both radio and TV platforms,” the release said.
The station runs specialty programs in six languages, including Tagalog, Farsi and Spanish, with special programs focused on local and regional artists and those working outside mainstream broadcast in genres such as K-pop, Jazz and Blues, the release adds.
“This evolution reflects Access’s ongoing dedication to connecting communities and empowering local expression,” the release says. “Through partnerships with local artists and music communities, AccessNow Community Radio continues to provide a platform for underrepresented genres and voices in Saskatchewan.”
