TORONTO – Bell Media is bringing back Canadian game show Just Like Mom in a deal with production company marblemedia that will see dads playing a role in the rebooted show.
Renamed Just Like Mom And Dad, marblemedia has licensed the series format rights and will re-launch the show in 2018 on Yes TV in Canada and BYU TV in the U.S. An online casting call kicked off Monday and production on the 20 episodes will begin this fall.
The original Just Like Mom was commissioned for CTV's flagship station, Toronto's CFTO-TV, and aired for more than five seasons between 1980 and 1985 before going into syndication. Filmed before a live studio audience at CTV's studios in Agincourt, the show tested which mother and child knew each other best through answer-matching, a bake-off challenge, and a bonus round which saw the winning team spin a wheel for the chance to win a grand prize.
"Today's announcement underscores Bell Media's continued efforts to transform from broadcaster to content company, and mining original programming like Just Like Mom is a perfect example of the strategy to extend our expertise into the format licensing arena," said content and programming SVP Mike Cosentino, in the news release. "We have every confidence that marblemedia and its broadcast partners will unveil a new, fresh 2018 version that will be a hit for viewers in Canada and the United States, and we look forward to licensing the format to other territories in the future."
Monday’s announcement represents the second original format deal for Bell Media this year, following word of the new, multi-platform, music series format The Launch for CTV for international distribution.
