400,000 Videotron telephony subs

MONTREAL – Just two years after its launch, Videotron’s residential cable telephone service has passed the 400,000-customer mark.

The product, thanks largely to its $16.95 starting monthly rate, has proved highly popular with Québec consumers, with a penetration rate (as a percentage of basic cable customers) now at 27%.

"This resounding success benefits consumers, who enjoy significantly lower rates and, for the first time, have a real choice of telephone service providers," said Manon Brouillette, senior vice-president, marketing, content and product development.

"According to a Léger Marketing survey conducted in 2006, subscribers to Videotron’s cable telephone service report a 94% satisfaction rate," added Brouillette. "That is a clear sign that consumers consider our service a reliable alternative to traditional telephone service."

Videotron is now the largest cable telephone service provider in Canada and the fifth largest in North America, by customer base. Its telephone service is now available in 83% of its service area.

New applications coming in 2007 include: video telephone and soft phone that support advanced call management features will be introduced in the course of the year.
