ATLANTA – The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and Cable Television Laboratories (CableLabs) have announced an enhanced relationship designed to use the combined strengths of both organizations to accelerate the worldwide development and deployment of new cable network technologies.
The relationship is designed to enable the innovation of CableLabs and the applied science, engineering and training capabilities of SCTE to be brought together in a clearly defined, collaborative way. In addition, it creates a framework that will enable parallel development of new technologies and supporting training resources by SCTE and CableLabs, including DOCSIS training and certification that begins this month, as well as educational activities at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo.
“As greater demands are placed on cable networks, it’s important that the industry’s two leading technical organizations work together in the most efficient manner possible,” said Phil McKinney, president and CEO of CableLabs, in the announcement. “By working more closely with SCTE, we believe we can help the industry to accelerate deployment of solutions that universally will benefit operators, programmers, advertisers and, most importantly, consumers.”
“The good working relationship between SCTE and CableLabs has helped to foster the development of a wide variety of technologies,” added Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE. “With the natural synergies between our areas of focus, the leadership of both organizations felt that an approach that maximizes communication and sharing of information would expedite the ubiquitous availability of new technologies, products and solutions for the industry.”
