$2 million in UBF money goes to rural Ontario projects


ISPs receiving funding include Vianet, Blue Sky Net and Bell

OTTAWA — The federal government has awarded more funding through its $1.75-billion Universal Broadband Fund (UBF), with the announcement today $2 million in funding is being provided to Vianet, Blue Sky Net and Bell to bring high-speed Internet to rural Ontario residents in Killarney, East Ferris, Redbridge and Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation.

The breakdown of funding, from the UBF’s rapid response stream, and number of households to be connected (1,257 homes in total) is as follows:

  • 176 households in the Killarney region (Vianet, $576,000)
  • 239 households in East Ferris (Blue Sky Net, $881,000)
  • 360 homes in Redbridge (Blue Sky Net, $386,000)
  • 482 homes in Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation (Bell, $195,000)
