19 companies share more than $4.2 million in CMF funding to develop interactive content

TORONTO – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is providing more than $4.2 million to innovative projects receiving development and marketing support as part of the second round of its 2012-2013 Experimental Stream. In November 2012, the CMF announced a contribution of more than $10 million to 15 projects who received production support.

The Experimental Stream encourages the development of innovative, interactive digital media content and software applications. Projects funded under the Experimental Program are to be developed for commercial potential by the Canadian media industry or public use by Canadians. Funding is allocated according to a selective process using an evaluation matrix.

In 2012-2013, the CMF invested $36 million in 87 projects who successfully applied to the Experimental Stream. Since its creation in April 2010, the CMF has provided more than 95 million dollars in funding to more than 250 innovative experimental projects originating from every region in Canada.

The CMF contributed more than $2.9 million to 12 projects receiving development support, for an average commitment of approximately $244,000.

Development support provides funding for the conceptualization of an eligible project and/or for the development of the creative and technical elements of an eligible project and the drafting of a product proposal for business development and financing purposes.

The CMF contributed more than $1.3 million to seven projects receiving marketing support, for an average commitment of approximately $200,000.

Marketing support provides funding for the marketing and promotion of an eligible project such as the creation of national and international marketing campaigns, design costs, creation and market-testing of advertising, use of the Internet for promotion or transactions, and more.
