TORONTO – The Canada Media Fund announced today that 44 projects would receive a total of over $12 million in funding through three of its programs.
First, $4.3 million will be invested in 22 innovative digital media projects through the first round of funding of its Experimental Stream’s Prototyping Program, and an additional $1.6 million is being invested in six projects through the Innovation Program: Limited Marketing and Promotion. A further $6.1 million will fund 16 projects through the Francophone Minority Program.
The $4.3 million bundle will enable the development of 16 game prototypes, in addition to three rich interactive media, one social media and two software applications.
The Experimental Stream’s Prototyping Program “allocates funding to projects at the early stages of building a product to demonstrate its intended functionalities and design. Specifically, this phase is for experimenting, testing and validating different concepts and hypotheses to arrive at a first functional prototype,” reads the press release.
Since 2010, CMF has invested $72 million in 334 prototypes.
The $1.6 million will go to marketing and promotion support to six interactive digital media projects including three games, two rich interactive media and one software application.
The CMF has invested $30.7 million in this since 2010.
The $6.1 million is going to support projects which reflect the realities of living in French-language communities outside Québec. The CMF has provided $97.8 million to 240 such projects since 2010.
