TORONTO — Canadian industry veterans Craig McGillivray (above, left) and Greg Rubidge (right) announced today the launch of 10Star Media, a new content sales, financing and production company.
The new venture will be headed by McGillivray, who most recently worked as vice-president of distribution at Breakthrough Entertainment, where he “helped sell and exec produce TV series such as Cruise Ship Killers, Breaking Wild and the feature film Vicious Fun,” reads a press release.
Prior to working at Breakthrough, McGillivray was vice-president of distribution at Peacock Alley Entertainment and before that he was territory manager at DHX Media (now WildBrain).
McGillivray will be based in Toronto and “will oversee pre-sales and financing in partnership with independent producers and production companies globally” for 10Star Media, the release explains.
Rubidge is president of Syndicado, a Toronto-based VOD distribution company founded in 2009. “He started his career in commercial banking, and after a few years moved into the film and TV industry where he spent the rest of his career at the intersection of entertainment and technology,” the release says.
“Syndicado’s strength with the major streamers and FAST players created an amazing opportunity for us to move in to pre-sales, financing and production in partnership with our long term producer clients,” Rubidge said in the release.
“Having known Craig from his past roles and developing this new idea that strategically works alongside Syndicado, was a no-brainer, and our partnership was born! We now cover all opportunities in the life cycle of a film/TV series, from development and financing, to sales and VOD distribution,” Rubidge added.
“10Star Media will hit the ground running at Banff with a slate of content ready for sales and pre-sales,” the release says.
