10-digit dialing comes to 705 in January

OTTAWA – Local 10-digit dialing will arrive in Ontario’s 705 area code region beginning January 15, 2011.The move will pave the way for the addition of the new area code 249 beginning in March as the 705 area code reaches capacity. This new area code will coexist with the current 705 area code covering the same geographic area, and will only be assigned to customers for additional services on an as-needed basis.As of January 15th, local calls dialed with only seven digits will be interrupted by a recorded announcement before being connected.www.dial10.ca
