The Podcast: How WCT is helping remove barriers to gender equality (Part Two)

An interview with Women in Communications and Technology executive director Joanne Stanley and board member Cheryl Fullerton, EVP people and communications at Corus Entertainment

THERE REMAINS MUCH work to be done to get to gender equality in the workplace among media and technology companies, but the good news is many leaders are taking the steps needed to get there.

There remain many barriers, however, and this is where Women in Communications and Technology comes in. The organization aims to change attitudes and drive change so that Canadian women can both succeed – and lead – in our ever-developing digital economy.

The second part of our two part podcast talks about more of the challenges facing women, which sectors need the most work, and how WCT leadership must remain vigilant to continue to make a difference in the lives of its membership.

WCT provides mentorship and executive sponsorship, urges flexible, diverse workplaces and provides executive leadership, among other aids, to its 2,500-plus members.

In May, the organization was to hold its annual gala and awards (which Stanley and Fullerton talk about here because the interview was done prior to the declaration of the global Covid-19 pandemic), but those – and all other in-person events – have been postponed.

In their stead, however, WCT is holding a series of webinars – the first of which begins Wednesday, April 8 called “In times of Disruption” led by Fawn Annan, president, chief marketing officer and group publisher of IT World Canada/IDG Canada.

The challenges to build a society with more women in management and leadership are many, but WCT is chipping away at those. Please listen to part two of our podcast.
