OMNI is looking for a determined, qualified individual to fill the position of Writer/Researcher – Intermediate for OMNI Focus Cantonese/Mandarin. You can work independently, but also as part of a diverse newsroom. You will be responsible for working on stories both in the studio, and out in the field for multiple media platforms.

Responsibilities:

Develop the best regional content for OMNI Television in Vancouver
Accountable for all aspects of quality control and ensuring that all news broadcast standards are met
Liaise with assignment desks, news reporters, editors, camera crew and producers with respect to content and story development
Assist in the production of all news specials
Organize and book feeds for our news operations within a defined budget
Coordinate coverage or technical arrangements with other Rogers departments or broadcast partners on news stories
Receive, research and generate story ideas
Assign reporter, shooters, writers and research staff
Planning of future shows
Proficient with social media
Other duties as required

Qualifications:

Must have a passion for local news and clear understanding of writing for broadcast
A creative vision and keen editorial judgment
Excellent knowledge of domestic and international news
In-depth understanding of the station’s regional content priorities
3 years experience working in an editorial capacity in a major market newsroom
3 years field experience as a writer, reporter or producer
Superior writing, organizational and interpersonal skills
Proficient Computer skills
Knowledge of iNews and Quantel software or similar newsroom software is an asset
Strong Cantonese and Mandarin language skills
Strong community contacts would be an asset
Degree or diploma in journalism or broadcasting
Proven record of working in a team atmosphere
Work well under pressure and consistently meet deadlines
Must be available to work overnight shifts and weekends
