Global News is seeking a Supervising Digital Broadcast Journalist to join our team. A strong news sense and good organizational skills are required. You must be up to the challenge of leading a team of committed and competitive minded people and be willing to lead by example. A Can-do attitude is a must. This is a key position in a highly motivated newsroom. This position reports directly to the News Manager – Sherri van der Veen. This is a bargaining unit position of Supervising Digital Broadcast Journalist – Group 5.


  • Report, shoot, write and edit stories for multiple daily newscasts and for
  • Support and direct a team of digital broadcast journalists
  • Help manage the day-to-day operations of the Global Saskatoon newsroom
  • Work with management, producers, assignment editor and on-air talent in Saskatoon & Regina to update, change and enhance Global Saskatoon newscasts in a high pressured and competitive environment
  • Along with management and assignment editor, supervise the daily editorial direction and production of news and online content
  • Make crucial editorial decisions under pressure
  • Working knowledge of local and national current events
  • Build strong working relationships with both Saskatoon and Regina newsrooms
  • Update staff to new changes in various workflow and editorial capacities
  • Provide feedback to news staff
  • Assist in maintaining staff schedules
  • Assist in personnel issues including hiring, promotion and assignments
  • Ensure company policies and standards are adhered to
  • Research and develop original story ideas
  • Strong on-air presentation
  • Display creativity in the use of production graphics and other visual elements
  • Meet multiple daily deadlines to write, post, promote and update local content on
  • Regularly post links, video and photos on social media to promote Global News content and engage with viewers
  • Be a strong advocate, model and mentor for digital journalism and a digital-first workflow
  • Participate in Global Saskatoon promotional and community initiatives
  • Available to work weekdays, evenings and weekends
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What We Need From You:

  • Diploma/Degree in Journalism/Broadcasting from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • At least five years’ experience in broadcast and online journalism
  • Established journalist with demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills
  • Anchoring experience would be considered an asset
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Must work well under pressure, possess a desire to be the best, have a positive can-do attitude
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation
  • Must be proficient in creating, curating and developing content using digital operating systems for multiple platforms
  • Desire to always push forward and try new things
  • Ability to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines
  • Familiarity with Canadian Press style and WordPress would be considered assets
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and clear driving record
