POSITION:                                              Studio Director

The Cable Public Affairs Channel, CPAC, Canada’s only privately-owned, national bilingual, not-for-profit  public affairs television network is seeking a dynamic individual to take the helm of studio production. This fluently bilingual individual will have exceptional organization skills, good people skills, a keen eye for detail and must be highly proficient in time management.  The ideal candidate thrives in a busy, always changing environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

·         Oversee and approve overall studio set-up prior to production;

·         Act as Director during studio and remote multi-camera productions;

·         Develop and implement a production design for each of CPAC’s studio productions, incorporating audio, visual and graphic elements;

·         Ensure that CPAC production and technical standards are met;

·         Ensure all elements of each production are provided in a timely manner; keep virtual rundown updated for timing and elements and cross checked with producers;

·         Oversee the integration of several independent programming tools;

·         Prepare, post and update daily production schedule;

·         Prepare daily production and incident report and follow up with Engineering/IT;

·         Participate in staff, communications, and other corporate meetings as required;

·         Undertake other related tasks as assigned by the Executive Producer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         College or university diploma or degree in radio/television production, film production, or equivalent experience;

·         Passion for new media technologies;

·         Five years experience in film or television production;

·         Three years experience as a switcher or director;

·         Required to work shifts, evenings and weekends;

·         Bilingual, English and French

Skills and knowledge

·         Has excellent organizational and time management skills;

·         Has strong project management skills and experience;

·         Has excellent supervisory skills;

·         Is familiar with the principles and practice of television lighting, audio, signal flow, recording, and with the basic operation of all studio and control room equipment;

·         Able to perform basic functions on production switcher;

·         Operates Newsroom automation software (Dalet) along with office computer software;

·         Works to exacting standards, including critical deadlines under high stress situations;

·         Utilizes creative problem solving techniques to develop innovative solutions;

·         Listens, assesses and clarifies problems and responds with options to co-workers, often under pressure;

·         Quick learner with a demonstrated ability to evolve with changing technology;

·         Understands group and interpersonal dynamics;

·         Creates an environment that recognizes, supports, respects and welcomes diversity of employees.
