Your role

We are looking for a Reporter, assigned primarily to a desk position in assignment, who is connected to this community, who knows how to find original stories and who has a passion for storytelling. The successful candidate will work primarily for radio in a fast-paced environment, but should also have experience in digital social media and television. You must be proactive in assessing the newsworthiness of press releases and chasing news, will be nimble with breaking news and knows how to find compelling original stories. You should be able to demonstrate and maintain exceptional skill in both writing and vetting radio scripts, have a strong knowledge of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices. You may on occasion be assigned out of the office on a story in the field, so you should have strong newsgathering skills.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, creative story ideas.
Story-teller with a strong demonstrated connection to the diversity of Calgary and Alberta.
Proven ability to work in diverse teams.
Working knowledge of digital news including social media.
Flexibility with hours of work and willingness to learn and take on new tasks across all CBC platforms.
Superior radio writing and vetting skills.
Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.
Experience in determining potential legal and journalistic issues and ability to act on them.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.
Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.
High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism.
University degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred.
Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts and late finishes.
