Global News has full time position available for a producer with the current affairs program “16x9” based at Global Toronto.

 Reporting to the Executive Producer of 16x9, the following is a paraphrase of the primary functions, but does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities that may be assigned to this position:

 Investigate, produce and coordinate story ideas and segments for a weekly one hour investigative current affairs program.

  • Contribute original, enterprise and investigative story ideas.

  • Initiate and supervise freedom of information requests.

  • Compile and analyze data and statistical information related to the investigation

  • Supervise show logistics including booking, coordinating and producing interviews and other shoots.

  • Conduct interviews on location.

  • Field produce visuals, recreations and other video required for the story.

  • Supervise edits and story production as well as other weekly show elements.

  • Source archive video for the story.

  • Prepare web excerpts of the story, including web scripts and video extras.

  • Assist Executive Producer in managing story budget targets.

  • Other duties as required.


 The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Post secondary education, preferably a journalism degree

  • Between six (6) to eight (8) years experience in television news production, news current affairs and/or factual or news documentary production.

  • Extensive experience in investigative journalism, preferably in long-form production.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in managing full, part-time or freelance staff members.

  • Candidates must have strong knowledge and interest in news, current events and culture.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in computer assisted reporting (CAR) and data compiling, analysis and interpretation for investigative journalism

  • Candidates should demonstrate proven research abilities and a broad knowledge of newsgathering in the field, have the ability to work in a high pressure, tight deadline environment and must be detail-oriented.

  • He/she must be independent, self-motivated and willing to work flexible hours as required.

  • Adept at using new media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc), and related applications for journalism.
