Planning and Design Technician – Access Communications

As a Planning and Design Technician you will be responsible for outside network route design, RF and Optical planning and design in Saskatchewan. Duties for this position will include:

Outside Network Route Design
• Develop outside network route design for Access coordinated projects.
• Develop outside network design for URD and non-Access coordinated projects.
• Obtain all easements, support structures, permits and approvals.
• Maintain As-Built records and distribute as required.

RF and Optical Design
• Develop, communicate, and maintain RF and optical specifications, standards, and best practices.
• Design both RF and optical networks using best practices and approved specifications.
• Supply design and construction documentation for construction staff and contractors.
• Update and maintain RF and Optical designs splice drawings, etc. and make available to technicians as required.

Develop and Maintain Specifications, Standards and Best Practices
• Be familiar with and utilize current design specifications, standards, and best practices.
• Develop, maintain, and communicate WCG specifications, standards, and best practices.
• Maintain accurate and organized files.

Other Duties
• Develop training sessions that meet the current and future requirements of staff and contractors if Access.
• Liaison with internal teams and contractors to provide support to supply solutions for our customers.
• Liaison with corporate partners such as SaskPower, Fortis, SaskTel, developers, etc. in furthering the goals and objectives of Access.

Competencies for Success:
• Two-year Engineering Technology course or equivalent industry experience with 1 year underground and aerial construction experience and 1 year RF and optical system design experience.
• AutoCAD or equivalent design software experience is required.
• Ability to track, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously.
• Problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Analytical and research skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work with others in a team environment.
• Ability to travel locally, and overnight from time to time.
