Reporting to the OPE Manager — Quebec Region and working closely with other network designers and planning specialists, the Fibre Specialist is responsible for the delivery of fibre optic solutions and projects in a dynamic environment dealing with network growth and technology advancements in different areas of the Rogers network in Quebec. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding fibre optic plant design, experience with troubleshooting fibre optic circuits and acting as support to various technical groups. This position is base out of Place Bonaventure, Montreal office.
Accountable for the design and planning of the optical architecture and topology. While considering optical link reach, design efficiency, approved optical technologies, network reliability, redundancy and scalability.
Provide technical support to system planners / network specialist related to fibre optic route selection, ensuring optimum cost effectiveness and performance of our existing and expanding fibre network.
Plan end-to-end fibre solution and/or provide instruction to support staff and engineering contractors for the successful delivery of plan.
Complete project in accordance with engineering specifications, planning requirements and delivered on time.
Produce Splice diagrams, Review and update Asbuilt information in SpatialNet, keep track of fiber availability in Network, maximize use of fiber architecture, determine Vhub requirements and provide transport circuit routing & CLFI naming.
Review, manage and technically approve construction drawing and designs prepared up by OPE contractors.
Review and process quotes from OPE contractors.
Review and sign off on invoicing from OPE contractors.
Prepare fibre cost estimates (FERS) and produce CAs, BOM and POs for in cable territory projects.
Assist other Rogers’s departments to resolve any escalations.
Accountable for the maintenance and up keep and data integrity of the asset data associated with the fibre network.
Provide support for the operation, maintenance and restoration of the fibre network.
Interpret OTDR/CD/PMD traces, loss measurements and other fibre characterization specifications for circuit acceptance.
Knowledge & Experience:
Post-Secondary education in telecommunications, civil engineering or a related field.
Sound knowledge of Fibre Optic Networks Telecommunications Environment experience is mandatory.
Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in Outside Plant Engineering.
Good working knowledge of all Microsoft applications, AutoCAD, SpatialNET
Experience in managing multiple, simultaneous, high volume projects self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and on a team.
Detail oriented with an aptitude for tracking progress across many projects
Excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational, written, verbal and time management skills
Ability to achieve results through teamwork Project
Ability to occasionally travel.
