Rogers is looking for a talented, innovative and self-motivated individual to work in the Enterprise Architecture, Technology & Strategy organization to research, architect, develop, validate and introduce new technologies for next-generation networking solutions for our business customers. The Network Architect will act as the principal subject matter expert and be responsible for strategies, technology and architecture around standardized and customized networks for business customers including network service offerings and machine to machine. This role entails working closely as a team with similar architect roles within the same group to ensure deliverables are met successfully.
•Define a “future end state architecture” for Provisioning, Policy, Orchestration, and Operational Support for Rogers next generation IoT, Telco Cloud, and virtual managed services while taking inputs from the “Process Improvement Team” on process study and have their output influence design of end state architecture
•Research best in class designs from vendors and study what other global service providers are implementing.
•Analyze networking and software technologies and vendors to support service requirements
•Assess and recommend vendor offerings (through research, proof-of-concept and RFx) related to centralized network control, automation and orchestration, network virtualization
•Define use cases and document business advantages and justifications related to SDN and NFV deployments
•Understand and able to formulate architectural, network and protocol layer requirements for various components of the SDN architecture (both at the software as well as the hardware layers)
•Determines integrated hardware and software architecture solutions that meet performance, usability, scalability, reliability, and security needs.
•Collaborate with team members, cross functional groups, partner companies or other vendors and open source projects to develop overall end-to-end solutions and architecture that meets and exceeds business expectations
•Foster environment of ideation and innovation to cultivate new solution concepts
•Draft a document that captures the size and scope of the end state system implementation that captures CapEx, and required human resources (and specific skills)
•Draft the implementation plan that divides the construction of the new system into manageable project pieces (to fit within CapEx budgets and resource constraints)
•Oversee engineering efforts such as: Existing asset utilization, consolidation, re-purposing
•Provide technical and architectural guidance to the EBU product team
•Ensure technologies are compatible so complementary service suites are achieved
•Provide technical guidance on evolution of cloud services
•Provide input on “Business Requirements Documents” for new solutions being created
•Provide EBU interface to Rogers organizations
•Provide an interface to the IT group ensuring Network – IT Interlock on All Provisioning and Back office projects
•Provide an interface to other Rogers BU projects so that best practices and technologies investments can be shared and leveraged (analytics, billing, CEX)
•Manage vendor feature roadmaps
•Represent the department in cross-functional meetings with Product Development, Planning, Implementation, and Operations to ensure effective implementation and hand-over activities
•Assist in defining and executing a technology strategy/roadmap that will enable Rogers to evolve its service offerings and transform how it offers products and services to its customers.
•Identify technical requirements, specifications and create evaluation criteria for procurement documents (eg. RFP, RFQ, RFI)
•A university degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics or another quantitative science.
•A minimum 6 years of experience in a networking architecture/design role in a customer facing large scale or service provider network with an additional minimum of 2 years in data center networking and virtualization
•Needs strong experience developing and delivering network architectures and design involving Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies to drive network agility and operational efficiencies
•Well-versed in the latest technology offering, capabilities and trends.
•Understanding of software development and design processes.
•Working experience with LINUX (RedHat/Suse/Debian/Ubuntu/BSD)
•Proficient at algorithm implementation and development in Java/C++/Python including good working knowledge of YANG data models
•Highly proficient and hands on experience in the following networking technologies IGP (OSPF/ISIS), MBGP/BGP, Multicast, MPLS, L2VPN (VPLS, EVPN), L3VPN, ,L2 switching, TCP/IP, IPv6, VXLAN, Openflow
•Understanding of the principles and the current state-of-the-art in SDN and Cloud Computing
•Solid understanding of distributed systems, virtualization, resource optimization, networking protocols, software performance and reliability, performance modeling and fundamental design with statistical analysis
•Knowledge and experience with open source communities
•Experience in architecting and building data center fabrics with high availability and high scalability
•Expert level knowledge of Layer-2 and Layer 3 network technologies
