Network Performance and Optimization Specialist

The Network Performance and Optimization role will primarily focus on network level monitoring of major radio access performance metrics and KPIs (accessibility, retainability, mobility, utilization, etc.) for both WCDMA and LTE, including VoLTE, and the rapid identification and resolution of related issues and trends.  The Network Performance & Optimization Specialist will ensure all radio access performance targets are met. They will provide expert support to the radio network engineering team and will develop / refine existing procedures for them to follow for improved RAN performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform daily analysis of reports and dashboards to identify radio access network level degradations in performance for WCDMA and LTE (including VoLTE) and monitor alarms for KPIs relating to such areas as accessibility, retainability, mobility, capacity utilization, traffic, throughput, licenses, RACH / RRC / S1 failures etc.

  • Perform similar daily monitoring and investigation for worst performing cells.

  • Develop performance metrics, performance thresholds and establish QoS levels for EastLink’s wireless network.

  • Develop and document procedures for improving RAN related KPIs for both WCDMA and LTE (including VoLTE)

  • Provide training and support to RNEs in dealing with difficult situations in their assigned region's KPIs.

  • Study network-wide KPI trends and issues. Develop and document procedures to resolve them.

  • Study and evaluate newly released vendor features and identify necessary KPIs for reporting.Develop procedures to improve them.

  • Study vendor upgrade changes to RAN related counters and their impact on existing reports / performance resolution procedures. Communicate necessary report modifications to report owners and fine tune resolution procedures.

  • Develop sets of counter groups for specific troubleshooting activities and associated OSS counter collection scanners for quick troubleshooting.

  • Identify, evaluate and select advanced software tools to be used by radio network engineers as needs arise.Gain expertise in tools and provide training and support to engineering users.

Having excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, you are results-driven, self-motivated and able to work in a team environment as well as independently. 

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience with wireless access networks.

  • Detailed understanding of Radio Network design fundamentals.

  • Practical knowledge of the UMTS/HSPA and/or LTE network standards.

  • Experience with detailed WCDMA and LTE network optimization.

  • Experience with performance management systems (Astellia)

  • Knowledge of Cellular Mobile Network traffic analysis / capacity planning.

  • Experience with Propagation modeling software (Planet EV, Pathloss, etc.)

  • Experience with Radio equipment and related accessories (antennas, repeaters, LNAs, etc.)

  • Experience with drive data collection / post processing network optimization tools (NEMO/Windcatcher)

  • Experience with trace data based geo-location solutions (CovMo)

  • In depth knowledge of Ericsson WCDMA / LTE RAN protocols and procedures.

  • Excellent computer skills, proficient in MS Office Applications.

  • Demonstrated leadership and public presentation abilities considered an asset.
