Network Content/News Manager - Corus Entertainment

About the Role:

Global News Radio 770 CHQR has a new and dynamic full time role based in Calgary. The successful candidate will create, coordinate, assign and oversee the delivery of integrated content for Global News radio, television, and Working in close collaboration with local and national news managers, this position will establish strong relationships across the network and build new workflows to ensure local listeners receive the full benefit of content gathering nationwide. As News Manager, this position will also be responsible for direct oversight of the Global News Radio newsroom.


  • Both create and direct the creation of daily Radio News packages for shared use locally and across the Global News network
  • Work closely with direct and adjacent reports to guide and shape daily editorial direction and delivery of multi-platform stories
  • Establish comprehensive communication protocols and act as the key liaison for local and national News and Talk managers
  • Develop and execute comprehensive breaking news, special live coverage, and enterprise content plans
  • Manage, coach, develop and oversee scheduling for anchors and reporters
  • Develop best practices and efficiencies for producing 770 CHQR newscasts
  • Establish on-boarding and training protocols for new anchor and reporter hires
  • Respond to listener and online comments, complaints, inquiries and news tips
  • Working with the Marketing Manager, establish strong relationship for the Global News Radio brand with local community partners
  • Attract, develop, and retain top radio news talent
  • Oversee newsroom operating budget
  • Execute company and employee management priorities ie. Engagement, coaching/mentoring, performance management
  • Backfill radio news anchor positions as needed (minimum 6 weeks/year)
  • Other duties as assigned

What We Need From You:

  • A passion for news, insatiable curiosity, and a collaborative spirit
  • Ability to quickly establish strong collaborative working relationships with remote teams and managers
  • Major market news experience both on air and in a leadership position
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Advanced ability to edit sound and quickly produce compelling news packages
  • Ability to research and develop original stories
  • Willingness to work regular early evening shifts and occasional weekends
